Lively debate about the future for music radio facing new opponents like
Spotify and other streaming services.
Some punchlines and conclusions:
Steve Pratt: We have to give the audience more options, they expect that.
There is still a need for curation and context, but CBC 3 offers a more
personalized service, in additions to traditional radio.
Ken – CBC3 is a good example of new innovative thinking, what happens when
new people like Steve comes into the radio industry
Martin – radio is more than music. We are in the entertainment business –
part of it on internet, mobile, events, radio. Music is one part of this –
radio is not just there for music
must develop oursstorytelling. Music is not longer THE THING for radio – it
is the basis on which you will have to build your station brand upon. Do we
have the people and personality to offer music radio + X
We use spotify as research – how do different songs do on spotify
Lars -
Spotify is very different from radio
Radio is human – it is free, simple to use, and DR P3 is still most trusted
to pick new Danish music.
Nick Goodman – music consultant England:
When I need company – I listen to radio
When I look for new music – I go to spotify
They are different experiences – lives side by side
And:
Spotify will not survive in 5 years time.
Well, that remains hidden….
