In 2001, René Zavoral started his career at Czech Radio as a Marketing and PR manager. While he then decided to take on the challenge of working for Komerční banka (one of the biggest commercial banks in the country) for almost two years in the field of corporate communication, he returned to his Czech Radio home in October 2006 as Marketing and PR Director. From April 2010 he held several different positions within Czech Radio – Communications and External Relations Director (since April 2010), Deputy Director General of Strategic Development (since November 2011) and Deputy Director General of Programming and Broadcasting (since April 2013). Having amassed well over a decade of experience at Czech Radio, René was elected Director General of Czech Radio on 21 January 2016. In January 2021, he was successfully re-elected for a second mandate. Prior to his radio career, he studied political science and graduated from the Faculty of Social Sciences at Charles University. As of 2015, René is also the Vice-Chair of the EBU Radio Committee.
