Juska Wendland

Radio host (YleX, Finland), PhD researcher (University of Lapland)

Juska Wendland is a Finnish radio professional, podcaster, and media educator with over 18 years of experience behind the mic and in audio production. Known to many as DJ Orion, Juska has been a driving force on YleX’s Friday night shows, building a loyal and engaged radio community. Currently based in Berlin, Juska is finalizing his doctoral research at the University of Lapland, focusing on how audio can transform individual listeners into genuine communities—even when they’re listening asynchronously. Rather than just talking about audience participation, Juska has brought his ideas to life by creating and hosting “Juska and Markku’s Weird Nature”—a podcast shaped directly by listeners’ stories, questions, and feedback. Juska’s research-driven ideas for building stronger audio communities have attracted practical interest from organizations like Yle and Deutsche Welle. He’s been invited to speak at major industry events including RadioDays, Eurosonic, and Future Media Hubs. In addition to his work in radio and research, Juska has spent 15 years as a media lecturer, helping the next generation find their creative voice—whether in audio, digital media, or web design. He is known for his energetic, positive, and down-to-earth approach—both on air and in person. If you want the very latest insights and discoveries on what
