Neil O’Brien is Head of Multiplex Operations at Fáilte DAB, Ireland’s trial DAB+ network, where he leads the operation of two national DAB+ multiplexes delivering a combined population coverage of 85%. He oversees the technical performance, service delivery, and ongoing development of Ireland’s digital radio transmission infrastructure. Previously, Neil held senior roles with Ireland’s broadcasting regulator, with responsibility across broadcast licensing, communications, audience engagement, content funding, complaints, investigations, spectrum management and policy development in a wide range of media areas. Neil was a delegate and signatory to the International Telecommunication Union GE06 Agreement, which established the international framework for spectrum planning and interoperability for digital radio and television across Europe, Africa, and parts of Asia. His earlier career spans mobile and telecommunications network, broadcast distribution for major events, on-air presentation, and radio production. A strong advocate for radio’s future, Neil is passionate for its digital evolution and its enduring relationship with audiences.
