World Radio Day 2026: Trust, Technology and the Human Voice
It’s World Radio Day today! Every year on 13th February the global audio community comes together to celebrate World Radio Day – a day proclaimed by UNESCO Member States in 2011 and adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in 2012.
It is a moment to recognise and thank broadcasters around the world for the news they deliver, the voices they amplify, and the stories they share. Radio continues to inform, connect and inspire billions of people every day – often in the most challenging circumstances.
This year the focus is on AI. Artificial Intelligence is opening a new chapter for radio. From production tools and workflow efficiencies to audience insight and content discovery, AI offers powerful opportunities for innovation. But its true value lies not in replacing human creativity – rather in supporting it.
When used ethically and responsibly, AI can help deepen radio’s bond with listeners. It can enhance storytelling, strengthen accessibility and support public service values. Used well, it becomes an ally in building audience trust.
Technology alone does not build trust. Radio broadcasters do.
At its heart, radio remains a human medium. It is built on judgement, empathy, authenticity and connection. AI is a tool – not a voice.
On this World Radio Day, we celebrate the professionals behind the microphones, in the newsrooms, studios and control rooms who continue to shape our public conversation.
