“Most of the time, when people don’t like the audiobook, then they don’t like the voice” Ruth De Jager, Vice President Content Development at Storytel, stated. Maybe that’s why Storytel published its first fully AI-produced audiobook using voice switcher technology as well?
Voice switcher is a functionality which allows listeners to change between different voices, either AI or human voices, to tailor their listening experience. Recently, Storytel published “New Horizon”, a collection of short stories that explores the intersection of humanity and artificial intelligence. “New Horizon” is a project that helped Storytel to build team knowledge on AI and create content that appeals to its audience.
Even though AI is very helpful nowadays, it can also be inconsistent and audiobook producers should always keep an eye out to ensure that the production is being made ethically. It can also get quite generic using soapy language, which tends to drive people away from reading a book, so again audiobook producers should also be aware of the audiobook’s content so they will be able to target the desirable target group.
De Jager claims that from AI someone can just get inspired. “Humans are essential, you can’t just tell AI to create a story for you”.
