This year the 6th GEN Summit will be held on 15-17th June 2016. The Summit is the major event of the Global Editors Network a group set up to bring together Editors-in-Chief and senior news executives, news producers and newsroom staff to answer the questions facing those who produce the news which today appears in print, broadcast, online, mobile and wire services.
The theme for this year’s Summit is ‘The Rise of Platform-Driven News’ and will explore the most relevant solutions for newsrooms. As more players enter the market especially over-the-top platforms, one of the question which the Summit will look at is who owns the reader both the data they bring to the platform and the loyalty of these readers. The battle for content distribution is hotting up and both traditional media and newer online competitiors now have to look to the future.
Some of the sessions include: Publishers vs Platforms, How 5G will transform media consumption, Personalisation of news: the Netflix effect, UK Government digital strategy and its impact on the media and How to become the New York Times for Millenials. Along with some top level speakers from this part of the media industry: Meredith Artley, Editor-in-Chief, CNN, Tony Emerson, MD, Worldwide Media & Cable, Microsoft, Alejandro Plater, CEO & COO Telekom Austria Group, David Tomchak, Head of Digital, 10 Downing Street and UK Cabinet Office and Cory Haik, CSO, Mic.
With over 600 participants expected at this event it’s a must for news room professionals or anyone with an interest in news creation, distribution and platforms.
