Paula Szuchman is the Director of Audio for The New York Times where she oversees a slate of shows that together were downloaded nearly a billion times in 2023. Paula joined The Times in 2020 as the first head of Opinion Audio, where she quickly built out a team and spun up three new shows. She was previously the head of new podcast development at WNYC Studios, where her credits include Scattered, American Fiasco and 2 Dope Queens.
She started her career as a print journalist, first as a magazine editor at Conde Nast, then a reporter and Page One editor at The Wall Street Journal, where she spent nearly a decade. She was also the deputy managing editor at Newsweek and managing editor at The Daily Beast. She’s the co-author of “Spousonomics: Using Economics to Master Love, Marriage, and Dirty Dishes,” released by Random House in 2010.
