Speaker Profile: Mukul Devichand

Mukul Devichand is the Executive Editor of Voice + AI for the BBC. He is responsible for developing and running a broad BBC offer on newly emerging Voice AI platforms, including both discovery of all BBC services and developing what the broadcaster offers on AI platforms in genres from news to children’s content. Part of this involves creating the BBC’s own AI Assistant capability, “Beeb,” and running new teams that pair producers with software engineers to set a direction for public service media in the era of AI Assistants. Mukul is also part of the senior team of BBC Sounds, the BBC’s digital audio offer.

His background is in BBC production and journalism, with a 15-year career as an investigative programme maker and then an editor for BBC News and World Service. He founded and ran several of the BBC’s main digital journalism units, such as the BBC Trending unit, the world’s “bureau on the internet”.
