The Goalhanger Podcasts have established their name as one of the most successful podcast series in the UK and they are steadily expanding their reputation it the international market. Tony Pastor, co-founder of Goalhanger explained in “The Rest Is Yet To Come: The Goalhanger Story” how they have emerged thriving and what is setting them apart from other podcasts, not only in the UK.
The incentive that triggered the creation of Goalhanger Podcasts, was the need to access content they wanted to listen to, but had not been produced yet. The concept is warm, engaging and conversational, and this is the reason behind the youthfulness of the audience. Although, allegedly younger audiences prefer short-form content, the analytics of Goalhanger show otherwise.
Still, monetization remains a major issue for podcasters, because the money spent on this industry is disproportionate to its size. For this reason, Goalhanger is on the lookout for alternative revenue streams, and as Tony revealed,
What is certain, is that listeners do not treat the Goalhanger Podcasts as mere podcasts. For instance, “The Rest Is History” is the only of the podcasts to have reached audiences overseas so far and it serves as a great and direct means of history learning, in a way that is intuitive to the average listener. “The Rest Is Politics” podcast is often faced as a news source, with constant and meticulous checks in terms of quality and legality.
Either way, Tony’s goal with these podcasts is to build strong communities, with the core values of civility and connectivity at the center. With this vision, the communities formed through these podcasts overcome the physical geographical borders.
