The famous Australian comedy duo Hamish & Andy took part in Radiodays Europe 2025 through the speech and presentation of their partner and Senior Lead of Future State Sound Design and Audio Production at LiSTNR Original Podcasts, Chris Marsh. To explain the huge success of the Hamish & Andy podcast, he shared with the audience the “10 ‘secret’ sauces for 20 years of success”.
Preparation
“Do some prep for your future self,” Chris Marsh prompted all radio producers, as over 70% of the work on the Hamish & Andy podcast is preparation.
Team
A good team that can maintain trust and a positive attitude among its members is half the work required to produce content. “High-performing teams move at the speed of trust,” Chris Marsh stated.
DNA
“The people’s show.” This is the filter through which all the content decisions the Hamish & Andy podcast team makes. Of course, it takes time for each team to find its own identity, but once it’s found, the team should stay loyal to it.
Authenticity
Although being authentic doesn’t mean unedited or unplanned content, Chris Marsh believes it’s important for teams to be authentic in their own way. “The guys (Hamish and Andy) are authentic because their reactions are genuine,” he said.
Respect
Respect is essential because when the audience feels respected, they happily engage with the presenters.
Quality over Quantity
A phrase that Chris Marsh said sums up this point: “Not all ideas have to make it to air.”
The Journey
As it usually happens in life, the journey is often more fun than the destination. The same goes for podcasting. “Just know when to pivot an idea,” said Chris Marsh, and the journey will be fun.
Play to Your Strengths
In every team, each member should find the role that best suits them, right?
Fun
“Make time for fun – schedule it,” Chris Marsh simply stated.
Loyalty
All of the above lead here. Loyalty is the one thing that will build a strong team. “Find your people” was Chris Marsh’s advice to the audience.
