Jean Philip De Tender is Deputy Director General/Director of Media at the European Broadcasting Union (EBU). He joined the EBU in 2015 from Belgian public broadcaster, VRT, where he held high‐profile roles including Director of Television and General Manager for Flemish channel, Eén.
As Director of EBU Media, De Tender oversees a department with a significant service portfolioacross news, music, TV, radio, digital, live events and strategic media events, such as the annual Media Summit. In July 2021, he assumed the additional role of Deputy Director General to support key management aspects of the organization, with an emphasis on strategic development and knowledge exchange. This expanded remit includes oversight of the EBU’s Media Intelligence Service and training division, EBU Academy.
As the media landscape continues to rapidly evolve, De Tender’s strategic role is focusing on the future proofing of public media through customised and expert support in areas including transformation and the provision of a central learning hub on artificial intelligence (AI), with particular emphasis on how the industry addresses huge changes due to AI’s increasing complexity.
De Tender’s professional interests include management and leadership techniques, organizational reform, strategic development, effective thinking, and building teams fit for purpose, from coaching to empowerment.
