On the day of the world famous – and canceled – cycle race the Tour of Flanders, Cycling in Flanders, Flanders Classics and Belgian radio and television network Sporza present ‘The Officially Unbelievable Ronde van Vlaanderen’.
To combat the cancellation organisers created a fantasty race online, as well as an audio play of the event unfolding in real time – the ‘Officially Unbelievable Ronde van Vlaanderen.’ The race saw several pros sign up for the virtual race along with a number of amateurs who were also given the opportunity to ride online. The race brought together famous males and female riders, creating an intergenerational battle over the cobbles. The audio play features commentary from duo Rob Hatch and Matt Stephens.
This online cycling event is a perfect example of how sports are adapting to social distancing, as podcast and audio provide opportunity to keep sports alive.
